It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

A few weekends ago we headed out to take the jeep up the Blue Ridge Parkway and see all of the Fall leaves...well we all know our luck with the mountains...we love it...it just doesn't love us...

We got to Asheville and unloaded the jeep..headed out and made it maybe 5 miles when we began seeing "CLOSED" signs...ughhhh not again. So I started calling informational numbers about road closures and it started becoming evident..the parkway was not going to happen.

So we loaded back up and took interstated on into Cherokee.
We started noticing small flakes fluttering, so we hopped out for a "kodak" moment even though you can't really notice them here....it was COLD!!!!
And then we saw more and more snow. When we reached the top of one mountain...the trees were COVERED!!!

It was seriously like a winter wonderland! MariAustin was super excited! Good thing I packed extra clothes.....just in case!

We saw lots of these signs....seems to be the story of ALL of our mountian trips!

And poor little Ella was asleep the entire time!

Once we got to the hotel, we thought we would add a little excitement for the girls. We put up a princess tent in the room for them to "camp out" in.
Of course this was just "wonderful" to them! All smiles inside!

The next day we headed over to the Great Smokey Mountain Railway in Bryson City. We were joining the Peanuts gang in search for the Great Pumpkin.

You were supposed to wear your Halloween costumes for the journey for a surprise at the top of the mountain. It was too cold so we had to cover their cute outfits with winter coats!

Both girls were dressed as Indians. We had decided on these costumes way early...but once we were in Indian Land....I was a little embarrassed...or something...it may not have been the wisest choice, but they were cute anyway!
Ella was so proud of her Indian shoes--as she called them. Last year MariAustin had picked out a pair of moccasins during her Special Birthday Trip, so Ella of course needed a pair to complete her outfit.

We had about a 30 minute train ride up a mountain and then we arrived to the greetings of the entire Peanuts Gang waving!

There were all sorts of activities. Each child received a treat bag. The first stop was a "germ-free" version of apple bobbing.

A little train ride....This is all Ella wanted to do!

Trick-or-treating down Trick or Treat Street. This was the cutest thing...It was 2 streets filled with rows of these little houses. You went up rang the REAL doorbell and someone opened it from the inside and filled your bag. They would then shut the door, so each and every child got a chance to do it themselves. It was soooo cute!

A hay ride...

Of course picking your pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.

There were other things such as a little maze, a bouncy train, tattoos, roasting marshmellows and other snacks. The girls loved it....it was SUPER COLD, but we survived....

We said goodbye to everyone and boarded the train for our trip back down the mountain!
